23rd June – 19th August 2023
Glamorous, rich and reckless, Elyot and Amanda were once married.
Now honeymooning with new spouses at the same hotel in the South of France, they meet by chance across adjoining hotel balconies. They are horrified and fascinated by one another, but their magnetic attraction is immediately rekindled. Before long, they are sharing cocktails and serenades.
Caring nothing for scandal, they elope to Amanda’s Paris apartment. After days of being reunited, they again find their fiery romance alternating between extremes of love and anger. Are they destined for a life together, or are their passions just too strong to contain?
A new production of one of the most sophisticated, entertaining plays ever written, by the unparalleled master of theatrical wit.
Content warning: Although a comedy, Private Lives contains some scenes of verbal and physical abuse.
