How to find us
The Roman Theatre of Verulamium is situated on Bluehouse Hill, St Albans, AL3 6AE. Click here for the Google Map.
There is no parking or drop off at the Roman Theatre itself – please do not try to enter the site in your car. The nearest parking (5 minutes’ walk from the theatre) is the St Albans Museum car park. Please note that this car park may be full at peak times, especially at weekends – alternative parking can be found on King Harry Lane (a 10 minute walk from the theatre), or in the city centre (a 15-20 minute walk from the theatre). The theatre is a 25 minute walk or a 10 minute taxi ride from St Albans City station.
If you have particular access requirements, please email us so that we can make appropriate arrangements to support your visit.
The elements

Whilst we can guarantee a wonderful evening’s entertainment, we are unfortunately not in control of the great British weather.
The auditorium is open to the elements, so please dress appropriately, remembering that sunburn and heatstroke are just as much of a risk as getting wet.
It can be damp in the air and on the ground even on dry evenings so we recommend you bring waterproofs, but please do not bring umbrellas as they can obscure the view for other audience members.
We always try to continue with performances, including when it rains, but if the weather makes it too difficult we may be forced to cancel. A decision to cancel will always be announced at the venue. If a decision is taken more than one hour before the scheduled start time of a performance, we will endeavour to contact ticket holders by email.
Tickets are non-refundable in the event of cancellation because of the weather but may be exchanged in accordance with our policy.
Food, drink and merchandise

Our well-stocked bars are open before and after the performance, and during the interval. From Sunday 7th June make your visit to the Festival even better with the Levantine Theatre Kitchen – our all-new offering serving fresh, vibrant Mediterranean-inspired street including Chicken Shawarma Wraps, Grilled Halloumi Wraps, Falafel & Hummus Wraps, Fresh Salad Boxes and Seasoned Fries.
We encourage you not to bring your own food and drink onto the site. All profits from our food and drink sales are reinvested into the Roman Theatre Open Air Festival performance programme.
Under the terms of our license, only alcohol purchased in our bars may be consumed onsite.
A range of merchandise will be available from our shop.
All our bar and retail outlets are cashless.
Facilities

The gates open 60 minutes before the performance starts. Latecomers are not guaranteed admission and will only be allowed to enter the Arena at a suitable point in the performance.
Toilet facilities are provided. Cushions and blankets are available to hire.
The Roman Theatre is a non-smoking site. Please do not smoke or vape anywhere in the grounds or on Gorhambury Drive – if you wish to smoke, you will need to walk out onto Bluehouse Hill.
We are working towards reducing our environmental impact with our packaging and waste management. We are also sourcing locally wherever possible.
Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed onto the site (except guide dogs).
For any general enquiries about your booking, please email us.
