VOLUNTEER AT THE FESTIVAL
OVO are looking to grow our team of wonderful volunteers to help support the smooth running of the Roman Theatre Festival.
We are specifically looking for people to help with stewarding in the arena during performances, working in the arena which is the at the heart of the Festival experience.
We will do our very best to mean you have a positive and rewarding experience. We will give you training for you to feel confident in your role and you will work alongside experienced OVO team members. You will get to witness some fantastic performances, and benefit from a 15% discount for any OVO performance you would like to attend as an audience member, together with 25% discount across our on site retail points.
In return we ask you do your best to ensure our customers have a fantastic experience in keeping with our unique historical venue and professional productions.

Arena Steward – Volunteer position
You are an important part of the customer experience. Providing a warm and welcoming presence as well as positive/ assertive interventions when required to ensure theatre policies are followed and to maximise the enjoyment of the audience.
Audience management
– Welcoming customers into the arena and directing them to their seats when needed
– Manage congestion and positively encourage the movement of customers when required.
– To keep the audience away from any ruins and areas marked ‘no entry’.
– Display the no phone and photography signs clearly at the beginning of the performance so that all of the audience see.
– Manage latecomers into the arena in line with the performance specific latecomers policy. Ensure the least disruption as possible by taking the audience member to their seat/s.
– Intervene on any flash photography and video recording of the performance
– Intervene any disruptive audience behaviour
– To assist any audience member with any health/ medical issues and communicate any concerns immediately to the Duty Manager.
– Ensuring that customers are not smoking or vaping in the arena, which needs to be addressed if this happens
– Support the management of prompt performance starts and 2nd half resumption
Arena standards
– To assist with ticket upgrades at the beginning of the performance and mobile selling during the interval
– Keep the arena tidy, well presented, clean and safe at all times
– Making sure customers aren’t using umbrellas in the arena
– Ensure customers queuing for the bar aren’t blocking the pathway
– Radioing the duty manager of an issues within the arena
– To assist with seat drying as required
– Emptying the arena bins at the end of the night
General
– Asking questions whenever you are unsure
– Raise any issues/ concern with the Duty Manager
– To communicate and constructively clearly with other members of the FOH team and OVO crew.
