Witty, sophisticated and thought-provoking, musical comedy Company explores love, marriage and relationships through iconic songs and sharp humour.

Company is one of Stephen Sondheim’s most celebrated musicals, and a must-see for anyone who’s ever questioned love, marriage, or what it really means to be “happy.”

At the centre of the show is Robert, single and living in New York City, surrounded by well- meaning married friends and a series of girlfriends, all eager to share their opinions on relationships. There are those who bicker endlessly yet cannot imagine life apart, those who have settled into routine, and those who mask dissatisfaction with humour, drinks, or bravado.

Through a sparkling collection of songs and sharply observed scenes, Company explores intimacy, independence, and the fear of commitment, with insight and wit.

Packed with iconic numbers such as Being Alive, The Ladies Who Lunch, and Side by Side by Side, the show balances laugh-out-loud comedy with moments of piercing emotional honesty. Its brilliance lies in its relatability – whether you’re single, partnered, happily married, or questioning everything, Company speaks directly to modern life.

Company will be Act4Theatre’s fourth Sondheim at the Roman Theatre, following the success of A Little Night Music, Into The Woods and A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum! This year’s production brings timeless, thought-provoking music with warmth, wit, and a dynamic cast of 14.

Smart, funny, and deeply human, Company will stay with you long after the final note.

This amateur production is presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International. All authorised performance materials are also supplied by MTI.
