A summer of breathtaking outdoor events in a one of a kind location.

A programme of events with something for everyone, in the stunning outdoor surrounds of The Roman Theatre of Verulamium.

The Roman Theatre of St Albans is located to the west of the city, built in the year 140AD as part of the Roman city of Verulamium. It is believed to be the oldest theatre in the country that is still producing theatre today. Each year, OVO produces a summer open air festival which has grown to be one of the UK’s leading outdoor events.

There is no parking or drop-off at the Roman Theatre itself – parking is available at the nearby NCP car park next to the Verulamium Museum.

Due to the challenges of this historic site, disabled access is limited but we strive to accommodate guests with limited mobility – please contact us at help@ovo.org.uk in advance of your visit so we can discuss your needs.

Les Liaisons Dangereuses
By Christopher Hampton | Based on the novel by Choderlos de Laclos
Directed by Adam Nichols
Two former lovers come together in pre-revolutionary France to corrupt the innocent and the virtuous for selfish kicks and fresh sexual conquests. These consummate seducers wield sex as a means to power, apply battleground strategies to affairs of the human heart and play seduction as a competitive sport. But when he falls in love for real, she realises she is playing a game with something and someone that she can't bear to lose.
Vinegar Tom
By Caryl Churchill
Directed by Matthew Parker
Alice thinks she has met the devil and dreams of him nightly, wishing he’d return. Does this make her a witch? Betty, the teenage daughter of a wealthy landowner, has refused to marry and is locked up in her room by her parents, convinced she is bewitched. A farmer and his wife are blighted by bad luck. Convinced their neighbour Joan (along with her cat Vinegar Tom) has put a curse on them, they whip up a whirlwind of fear and fire. Into this perfect storm of superstition and slander a renowned “witch-finder” arrives and it’s not long until almost every woman in the village has the finger of suspicion pointing at them.
