OVO’S FESTIVE FIVE STAR SELLOUT SMASH HIT RETURNS BY POPULAR DEMAND

A seasonal, site specific outdoor promenade experience, showing the beautiful and atmospheric Roman Theatre of Verulamium as you’ve never seen it before.

“What’s Christmas to you, but a time for finding yourself a year older, but not an hour richer?”

It’s a cold Christmas Eve and mean-spirited miser Ebenezer Scrooge has an unexpected visit from the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley.

Bound in chains as punishment for a lifetime of greed, he tells Scrooge it isn’t too late for him to change his ways and escape the same fate.

But first he’ll have to face three more eerie encounters, as he learns to pity himself and to love his neighbour…

A Christmas Carol didn’t just invent Christmas as we know it. It’s also beautiful, angry, joyful, spooky and hilarious, radiating enough seasonal warmth to melt even the hardest heart.

You will be immersed in the action as you are led around the Roman Theatre site by Charles Dickens himself. Along the way you will meet Scrooge, The Cratchits, Tiny Tim, The Fezziwigs and many other colourful characters – along with a few ghosts and ghouls who will try to point Ebenezer on a better path. All washed down with locally produced mulled wine, hot chocolate, seasonal snacks and lashings of Christmas cheer.

OVO’s Christmas Carol took St Albans by storm in 2022, becoming our fastest selling show of all time with all performances sold out. Due to the immersive and site specific nature of the show, capacity at each performance is strictly limited, so don’t delay – book todaye Children and The Welkin.

If you have any questions regarding access at The Roman Theatre, please email us before booking so that we can provide you with information and assistance. We regret that this event is not suitable for audience members with significant mobility issues due to the particular challenges of moving around the site of this scheduled ancient monument, which includes uneven ground and several flights of steps. We are currently working on planned site improvements to enable fuller access to this event in future years.

"OVO has breathed new life into an old tale, thanks to a beautiful setting and talented performers that shine and soar."
