Christmas with The Herts Big Band

Join the award winning Herts Big Band and guest artist Peter Long for a varied night of big band jazz and plenty of festive cheer with some excellent jazz arrangements of Christmas songs and carols.

Peter is a virtuoso clarinettist and saxophonist, with a varied career including a 5 year stint playing and arranging for Jools Holland’s Rhythm and Blues Orchestra, which saw him working with Tom Jones, Norah Jones, Lulu, Georgie Fame and Lionel Richie.

Peter is known for his work as an educator working at the Royal Academy, The Guildhall and the Royal College. As a jazz soloist, Peter has appeared with resident trios across the UK and now spends most of his time as a bandleader and orchestrator. He currently directs the Big Band at Ronnie Scott’s alongside his own projects. 

Celebrating their 20th anniversary, the Herts Big Band are delighted to be back at The Maltings Theatre for a fourth time, which has become a popular fixture in the area.

Listeners can expect to hear a diverse range of big band jazz including songs sung by Ella Fitzgerald, Nancy Wilson and the music of great bands such as Duke Ellington, Buddy Rich and Count Basie.
